The Gables Lake Foreshore, NSW

Project Overview

Located within Stockland's master-planned community in Sydney's Hills District, The Gables Foreshore has transformed a four-hectare lakeside environment into a vibrant community destination. Designed by AECOM and delivered by Solutions Plus for Stockland, the precinct sits adjacent to The Gables Town Centre and forms a key part of the broader network of parks, playgrounds, sports facilities and community spaces being delivered throughout the estate.

Featuring boardwalks, viewing decks, open green spaces, event areas, walking paths and multiple play zones, the foreshore has quickly become the heart of the estate for residents and visitors alike - an outdoor space designed to evolve alongside one of New South Wales' fastest-growing residential communities.

The Challenges

With multiple parks and public spaces planned throughout The Gables’s 220-hectare, 4,000-home master-planned estate, Stockland needed a consistent approach to infrastructure to create a cohesive look and feel across multiple precincts while simplifying maintenance and asset management into the future.

The Lake Foreshore also presented unique engineering challenges. Located alongside a four-hectare lake on a natural watercourse, all products required flood certification and assessment against strict water velocity and flood-height requirements to ensure long-term durability and public safety.

The Solution

With an established record of delivering successful outcomes alongside Solutions Plus, GX Outdoors was selected to supply a coordinated family of Australian-made public space infrastructure for the foreshore precinct and future stages of The Gables development.

The Moda range is where style meets strength in outdoor furniture. Constructed from marine grade aluminium and powder coated in any of GX Outdoor's comprehensive suite of colours and finishes, the flexibile configuration, sizing and options means the Moda suite integrates into any outdoor space seamlessly.

The Moda range heroed across the project, ensuring a consistent design language throughout the precinct through the use of tables, bench and park seating, daybeds and bollards. These were complemented by Sentinel Bin Enclosures and Akuna Drinking Fountains and Citistyle Hoop bike racks to create a unified appearance throughout the precinct while complementing the surrounding landscape and architecture.

A unified finish palette of Blackbutt TimberImage and Textura Monument powder coating was adopted across the product suite, helping reinforce a clean, contemporary aesthetic that complements the lakeside setting and adjacent town centre.

Key measures of success for Solutions Plus included:

• GX Outdoors’ full park solutions and ability to offer seamless integration of products across this and across additional parks and community spaces to be delivered throughout the estate;

• Our 100% Australian manufacturing capability, which ensure confidence around lead times, warranty support, future replacements and the ability to maintain specification consistency; and

• The minimal assembly requirements of our products, which reduces installation complexity on site and streamlines construction.

The GX Outdoors team also worked closely with the project team throughout the engineering assessment process to ensure all of the products were successfully certified for the site's flood conditions and performance requirements were met without compromising the design vision.

The Outcome

The result is a cohesive, highly durable community space that enhances the lifestyle commitments made by Stockland to their community.

Boardwalks, pathways, playgrounds, event spaces and open lawns work together around the lake as the heart of the precinct to create a destination that appeals to families, walkers, cyclists and visitors to the adjacent town centre. The precinct includes multiple playgrounds, viewing areas, picnic spaces and extensive pedestrian connections, creating a seamless transition between recreation, retail and everyday community activity.

By integrating a consistent suite of street and park furniture throughout the foreshore, the project delivers a place that people want to linger, gather and engage with and supports Stocklands’ long-term vision for The Gables as a connected and highly liveable community.
