Bayview Heights to White Rock Easement, QLD

Project Overview

The Bayview Heights to White Rock Easement Underground Cable Project was undertaken by Powerlink Queensland in partnership with Cairns Regional Council to support the continued safe, secure and reliable supply of electricity to Cairns and the Far North Queensland region.

The high-voltage underground cables span 2.7km between the Bayview Heights and White Rock transition stations.  Since their installation in 1997, significant development and vegetation growth has occurred throughout the surrounding Mount Sheridan area, creating potential risks to the underground transmission infrastructure and the security of power supply to the Cairns region. 

A key part of the restoration works was the opportunity to improve the easement as a shared community space. With more than 300 trees identified for removal due to their potential impact on the underground cables, Powerlink worked closely with Cairns Regional Council to consider community feedback, the needs of Crowleys Creek walking path users, compatible vegetation, ongoing maintenance requirements and opportunities to introduce new amenities along the easement.  

The completed restoration included extensive replanting, new shade trees and public amenities designed to help address shade loss and provide respite points for residents and walking path users.

Our Contribution

GX Outdoors was proud to contribute to the restoration of the space by supplying durable public outdoor furniture that creates new opportunities for residents and walking path users to stop, rest and enjoy the restored landscape.

Our contribution included:

- The Akora Cantilever Shelter, providing a dedicated shaded respite point along the Crowleys Creek walking path and helping address the loss of natural shade following vegetation removal. 

- Citistyle Park Seats, installed throughout the easement to provide convenient resting points at intervals along the walking path.

The park furniture was selected to complement the surrounding landscape, with a natural Doeskin finish applied to the Akora Cantilever Shelter and Blackbutt TimberImage used on the Citistyle Park Seats. The combination creates a warm, natural aesthetic while the aluminium construction provides the durability needed to withstand Australia's harsh outdoor conditions, with minimal ongoing maintenance. 

The Blackbutt TimberImage finish delivers the look and warmth of natural timber while retaining the performance benefits of aluminium, including long-term durability and resistance to the elements. Together, the shelter and seating provide practical amenities throughout the restored easement, helping create a more welcoming and comfortable space for residents and users of the Crowleys Creek walking path.
