Project Overview

Queens Park Ipswich was delivered as part of the Ipswich City Council’s Indigenous Accord (2020–2025), honouring First Nations men and women while recognising the cultural significance of the location to the Traditional Owners, the Yagara People.

The park was designed through extensive engagement with the First Nations communities as a place for commemoration, reflection, education, and healing.

The focal point of the park is the circular performance space which reflects the site's Indigenous significance as a traditional place of gathering, storytelling, ceremony, and cultural exchange, while providing a contemporary community hub that celebrates and strengthens Ipswich's connection to Country and First Nations heritage.

Our Contribution

GX Outdoors was commissioned to supply key infrastructure for this landmark space that enhances both function and storytelling throughout the site. This includes:

• A fully Customised Shelter, a defining feature of the circular performance space, featuring laser cut artwork informed by First Nations consultation, creating a striking and meaningful focal point within the park.
• Akuna drinking fountain; and
• Citistyle heritage bin enclosures

The Sable Core Ten finish on the suite of products was selected to complement the surrounding landscape, with a weathered steel aesthetic that references the area's rich cultural and historical heritage while maintaining a contemporary civic character. The durable powder-coated surface delivers long-term resistance to Australia's harsh climate, ensuring enduring performance with minimal maintenance.
